Dr. Dubin

Lincoln had a doctor's appointment with his physiatrist yesterday. Dr. Dubin has worked with Lincoln since he was young and botox was en vogue (not for me! for his tight hamstrings and heel cords...I beg your pardon!). Dr. Dubin said that if Lincoln had a spinal cord injury at this stage in recovery he would just be coming out of "spinal shock" - meaning: his brain is still in a bit of a shock; and get this: he used the term "Rebooting" just like Dr. Harter (I love that man), the neurosurgeon. They must have attended the same conference ; ) Dr. Dubin said Lincoln will "probably" regain all the use of the left hand and arm that he had prior to surgery. Although he's not so sure about his wrist. We'll see see about that. He said it could take up to a year to see what he's going to look like - maybe longer. Sadly, I didn't write any of this down in the "Lincoln Log Volume IV" so I really can't remember much else that we talked about.

I've decided that I'll keep this blog going until Lincoln regains the use of his left arm and hand.

  1. OH NO MY DEAR! You got us all involved with Lincoln (and by extension your family) and you cannot quit until we all know how this BUMP in the LIFE AND TIMES OF THE ANDREW MURPHY FAMILY ends. We want to cheer Lincoln on in good times and cry with him when he can't give any more. We want to know when you all need our help (since none of you will come out and ask) and we want to be there at the finish line when Lincoln becomes a contributing member of society as a man.
So, you have to keep it going, if not for your own good (you are always telling me how good it is to keep a journal) but to keep us up to date and from our reading between the lines, we know when to offer our help to any or all of you! AND WE ALSO WILL KNOW WHEN TO BACK OFF.
IF YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED IT OUT BY NOW, WE ALL LOVE YOU AND WANT TO KNOW YOU TOO!

  4. Seriously Scott, those are your words of encouragment, boy do you need help! HA - JUST KIDDING! It sounds to me that Lincoln is right where he is supposed to be at this stage. If it takes one, two, three years, whatever, in the end, he will be much better off than he would have been without the surgery. Time is all he needs. Hang in there, all of you.
    Love,
    Me

  6. Remember that this is a marathon and not a race, he is going to regain the use of his left side because he and you are not going to stop fighting until he does. And we are all here to help! Never forget that! Joseph can not wait for Lincoln to be back in school.
